Dr. Svetlana Nuss

Studying and teaching English and Russian philology is my passion. I help school districts establish and develop EL coaching programs to support classroom teachers in making content accessible to linguistically diverse learners and building equity in ELL instructional practices.

As a language teacher, linguist, and researcher, I provide professional development and work on improving instructional practices for teaching English as a new language and morphologically rich languages like Russian. I also teach online graduate courses for the College of Education, Bilingual Literacy & TESOL Certification program at Grand Canyon University. Regardless of what I teach, I am dedicated to the success of my students, colleagues, and teachers I work with and love learning with them!

I believe in supporting the profession and serve on the State of Alaska EL Advisory Committee. I am also a board member for two of my home state organizations, Alaskans for Language Acquisition (AFLA) and Alaska State Literacy Association (ASLA). Most recently, since 2021, I edit the Routledge Russian Language Pedagogy and Research series.
